GLOBAL brands are kicking off campaigns to support this year’s Earth Hour (March 30) event.

Samsonite, in collaboration with WWF Malaysia, is presenting a luggage trade-in campaign in an effort to raise awareness on environmental concerns.

In the campaign, shoppers who trade in their old luggage at Samsonite outlets can enjoy discounts on selected models; for each trade-in transaction made, RM10 will be donated to WWF-Malaysia’s Earth Hour fund. This campaign will run until April 14.

The American luggage retailer has also pledged to switch off all non-essential lights in its retail stores in Malaysia on March 30 from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. During the trade-in campaign, all non-essential lights will be switched off every Monday for an hour from noon.

Ambert Khoo, the country head of Samsonite (Malaysia) said in a statement that the collaboration aims to “support WWF’s mission to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and build a future to live in harmony with nature, as well as addressing broader issues of the natural environment, incorporating aspects such as policy work, environmental education and public awareness.”

The company plans to donate all the used luggage to Kloth Cares, an organisation that re-purposes old fabrics/textile as a way of keeping them out of landfills.
