Useful tips for healthy joints
EXERCISE can help you lose the extra pounds and maintain a healthy weight. One of the most effective exercises to reduce weight would be cardio exercise but this impacts the joints, especially the knees.
How to maintain a healthy lifestyle then? A known supplement for joints would be glucosamine and chondroitin – some may have tried it before but it may not have worked. Fret not. There is now a better alternative.
UC-II improves function in knees and prevents excessive deterioration of articular cartilage. UC-II is a patented form of collagen with undenatured (native) type 2 collagen for joint health support.
A 40mg amount daily is proven to work by inducing oral tolerance, which prevents the immune system from damaging its own cartilage. This ultimately stops inflammatory damages, repairs joint cartilage and improves joint functions and health.
UC-II modulates and reduces the body’s abnormal immune response at the joints that causes inflammation and damages of joint tissues and cartilage.
Stopping inflammation not only helps to stop further joint damages, but it also accelerates repairing and rebuilding processes of the joints.
Results from a new study published in the Osteoarthritis and Cartilage Journal indicate that an undenatured native chicken UC-II collagen ingredient supplied by Lonza from Basel, Switzerland helps attenuate joints – health symptoms associated with osteoarthritis, including joint pain and diminished joint mobility.
Researchers posited that the collagen ingredient may offer support for the healing process following the onset of osteoarthritis.
They write that currently, glucosamine and chondroitin are the two nutraceuticals most commonly used to provide therapeutic and health benefits for osteoarthritis symptoms.
However, they said that the collagen derivatives may also provide the nutrients required for cartilage repair and maintenance. They also note that collagen is the most prevalent component of the solid phase of articular cartilage, so supplementation with collagen has been considered a key way of preventing damage to the articular cartilage over time and to support the healing process following the onset of osteoarthritis.
UC-II has also recently been studied in human knee osteoarthritis subjects.
Another study published in Nutrition Journal found that UC-II is more effective at improving symptoms of osteoarthritis than a placebo or glucosamine hydrochloride plus chondroitin sulfate.
UC-II significantly improved joint functions, mobility and flexibility compared to placebos using three different assessment tools – Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index, Visual Analogue Scale and Lequesne functional index. The study found that:
• UC-II works better in improving joint functions and movements – a 39% increase in physical functions and 40% reduction in stiffness at 180 days, compared to placebos and glucosamine and chondroitin
• UC-II works better in relieving joint pain – the study found a 41% reduction in pain at 180 days compared to placebo and glucosamine and chondroitin
Researchers concluded that UC-II significantly improves knee function in osteoarthritis subjects at 180 days compared to placebos and glucosamine and chondroitin and was well tolerated.
Taken once a day, UC-II is proven to work three times faster and better than conventional glucosamine and chondroitin in reducing joint pain as well as improving joint health, flexibility and mobility. It is derived from natural source – chicken sternum cartilage.
As it does not contain shellfish, it is safe for those allergic to seafood. It is also suitable for diabetics, as it doesnot affect blood sugar control.
