Top-ranked uni
CURTIN University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia), Curtin University’s largest international campus and global hub in Asia, is pleased that Curtin has continued to rank highly in the recently released 2019 QS World University Rankings by Subject, including its standing as the world’s secondbest institution for mineral and mining engineering.
Curtin Malaysia pro-vice-chancellor, president and chief executive Prof Jim Mienczakowski says the latest edition of the global rankings shows Curtin being ranked among the top 50 universities across the globe in two subject areas, with earth and marine sciences ranked 35th, and mineral and mining engineering at second place for the third year in a row.
He says the latest results are relevant to Curtin Malaysia, as it offers courses in the two subject areas – Bachelor of Science in Applied Geology and Bachelor of Engineering in Petroleum Engineering – as well as a range of relevant postgraduate programmes by coursework and research.
The latest edition of the world’s most consulted university rankings shows Curtin achieved rankings in 24 subjects, with six subjects listed in the top 100 across the globe. These subjects include architecture and built environment, education, civil and structural engineering, and sports-related subjects.
“Curtin Malaysia is extremely proud to offer these world-ranked courses, and at affordable rates. Students study the exact same courses and get the same degrees as in Australia,” says Prof Mienczakowski.
Prof Mienczakowski’s sentiments echo those of Curtin University vice-chancellor Prof Deborah Terry, who said in Perth recently that that the results continued to highlight Curtin’s strengths.
“These results are a reflection of our dedication to quality research and teaching, and we remain committed to further developing Curtin’s standing as an international leader across more fields of study,” she said.
The 2019 QS World University Rankings by Subject considered more than 1,200 universities across 78 countries all over the world.
Curtin University is Western Australia’s largest university and is ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide, with the university placed in the top 200 globally according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2018.
