THERE’S plenty of fun stuff for children to do at this year’s Popular Bookfest@malaysia– and we’re not just talking about books and reading.

Young visitors can also display their art skills and pick up fabulous prizes at the Children’s Colouring Competition, or play fun games while learning about the environment with the Little Warriors Recruitment Challenge. It’s all about having a good time, while picking up useful skills!

The children’s colouring competition will be held at the stage, Hall 5, of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on June 3. Themed “Assuredly Enriching”, it is open to budding artists in two categories: Category A for five to eight-year-olds and Category B for nine to 12-yearolds.

Registration for category A will be from 11am and 11.30am on June 3. This will be followed by the competition from 11.30am-1.30pm, and then prize-giving from 2pm-2.30pm. After this, registration for category B takes place from 3pm3.30pm, followed by the competition from 3.30pm-5.30pm, and then prize giving from 6pm-6.30pm.

Each category will see first, second and third prize winners walk away with hampers and Popular gift vouchers. There will also be 20 consolation prizes of Faber Castell hampers worth RM100 each.

Participants in each category must use only Faber Castell colour pencils during the competition. Payment of RM8 is needed to obtain a registration form from selected Popular outlets by May 26. The first 150 participants will immediately receive a goodie bag worth RM20.

Who knows, your child may be the next Leonardo Da Vinci or Pablo Picasso! For enquiries, e-mail prevents6@popularworld.com or visit bit.ly/bfmcc19.

While some children enjoy painting with a variety of colours, others are more interested in a single colour: green. These budding ecologists can foster their love for the environment by taking part in the Little Eco Warriors Recruitment Challenge.

The challenge takes place in the same location as the colouring contest but a day later, on June 4, from 11am-3.45pm. There will be five 45-minute sessions, each open to only 30 participants. Participants will be able to play three games, each designed to be fun and informative, sowing lessons about the importance of going green.

To enter the challenge, pay RM5 and redeem your Fun Pass at selected Popular outlets or at the event venue during Bookfest@malaysia. The first 150 participants aged between seven and 12 years old will receive a “Little Eco Warrior” badge, book, certificate and an exclusive gift, while stocks last.

The Little Eco Warriors’ Recruitment Challenge aims to teach children lessons they would not normally receive in the classroom. By being encouraged to think both smarter and “greener”, who knows, these little ones could maybe follow in the footsteps of Greta Thunberg, the teenager who began the global #Schoolstrikeforclimate movement!
