An ideal education
IGB INTERNATIONAL School (IGBIS) is a premier International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering an inclusive education for Early Years to Grade 12 students.
The full IB continuum is offered, consisting of four programmes – the Primary Years Programme for three- to 12-year-olds, Middle Years Programme for 11- to 16-year-olds, Diploma Programme for 16- to 19-year-olds and Career-related Programme, also for 16- to 19-yearolds. IGBIS also offers a special programme for two- to three-year-old learners, called Fireflies, which like all its Early Years programmes, offers a fully play-based learning environment.
The IB is a renowned global educational system developed in Switzerland in 1968. It offers an international education that encourages students to think independently, become more culturally aware and be able to engage with people in the increasingly globalised, rapidly evolving world.
IGBIS students live and breathe the IB’s Learner Profile that encourages all students to be reflective, knowledgeable, caring, balanced, open-minded, thinkers, risk-takers, inquirers, principled and communicators, encouraging them to reach their full potential in a broad and balanced way.
The IB is respected by universities and employers worldwide for its unique academic rigour, balance and emphasis on students’ personal development.
Current and past students of IGBIS have received university offers from prestigious universities such as University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, University of St Andrews, University College London, Pennsylvania State University, New York University, Northeastern University, University of California at Los Angeles, University of British Columbia, University of New South Wales, International College of Music, Malaysia and Yale-NUS College, Singapore.
The 16- to 19-year-old students at IGBIS can choose between the Diploma Programme (DP) or the Career-related Programme (CP). The CP is the newest IB programme to be available in Malaysia, having been established worldwide over 10 years ago.
DP students maintain breadth and depth of study by managing six academic subjects chosen from six groups consisting of studies in language and literature, language acquisition, humanities, sciences, mathematics and the arts.
Their skills of research and independence and sense of balance are developed through a 4,000-word mini-dissertation, a science project that connects all the disciplines, an ethical and critical thinking course and the sphere of creativity, physical activity and service learning.
The CP was formed after extensive research among educationalists and employers who recognised that graduating students enter a highly competitive modern workplace that demands more than ever before. Employers want career-related experience, in addition to academic qualifications and desire fresh graduates who are numerate and articulate with fluent technical abilities.
As well as at least two academic DP subjects, CP students complete a career-related study and a core consisting of four components.
Language Development encourages students to improve their proficiency in a language other than their best language.
Personal and Professional Skills emphasises development of skills for the workplace, which are transferable and can be applied in a range of situations.
Service Learning involves the practical application of knowledge and skills towards meeting an identified community need, enabling students to develop and apply personal and social skills in real-life situations.
The CP prepares students for higher education, internship or apprenticeship, or a position in a designated field of interest. It has its own uniqueness, in that successful CP students will earn various certificates including the CP award and DP course certificates.
CP students at IGBIS can choose from two career-related study streams – accountancy or art and design. Students studying the accountancy stream are able to earn a Certificate in Finance, Accountancy and Business through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales.
This certificate can allow students to begin their careers soon after finishing high school.
Students studying the art and design stream are able to undertake university-level foundation courses through Savannah College of Art and Design while still at IGBIS.
This gives them a head start on their university career, with IGBIS paying for the university courses they take while completing their studies at the IGBIS.
IGIBS is pleased to announce there is no increase in fees for the next academic year. The school is open for enrolments for the 2019-2020 academic year, beginning in August.
