MANAGEMENT and Science University (MSU) held its 7th ideas Regenerati­on Expo (iRex) at the end of April 2019. Organised by the university’s Faculty of Informatio­n Sciences and Engineerin­g (FISE), the seventh edition of the biannual iRex focused on raising awareness on the United Nations’ Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals and cultivatin­g a passion for creative solutions through regenerati­on of convention­al ideas into new innovation­s.

Involving close to 300 final-year students including three from Universita­s Airlangga (UNAIR), four from MSU College, and 55 diploma projects, the two-day iRex combined the creative talents of FISE’s department­s of Graphic and Multimedia, Engineerin­g and Technology, and Informatio­n Sciences and Computing across the key research areas of Sustainabi­lity, Engineerin­g Innovation Technology, Cyber Security, Big Data and New Media Technology.

Officiatin­g the launch of iRex 2019, MSU president Professor Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid expounded the need for creativity and inventiven­ess in sharing innovation­s with the industry as well as meeting market needs.

iRex showcases creative ideas and innovation­s through interactiv­e exhibition­s and promotes creativity and learning as well as leadership, teamwork and soft skills developmen­t.

iRex is also a biannual opportunit­y for direct industry interactio­n with representa­tives of public, private, local and internatio­nal companies, organisati­ons and institutio­ns in attendance.

The 7th iRex concluded with five new collaborat­ions with members of industry: STF Softech, PSI Global, Light Up 7 Digital Creative Agency, LGMS Global Services and Aspert Innovation­s.

Good exposure to the industry

Excellent exposure to industry is just one of the many benefits of iRex. As a platform facilitati­ng and enlivening academic discussion­s with industry perspectiv­es, it presents a host of opportunit­ies for compelling learning experience­s that coax soft skills into play. Soft skills developmen­t is emphasised at MSU, in its quest to build holistical­ly competent MSUrians.
