Safe and effective medication for all
UCSI University’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences actively engages community in various healthcare and medication safety campaigns.
The faculty strives to accelerate progress towards the health-related United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The faculty organises an annual “Public Health Campaign” since 2002 that positively impacted more than 10,000 members of the public.
This year it will be conducted at Pusat Rekreasi JKKK Batu 11 Cheras on July 13 and 14 and Pangasapuri Sri Penara Bandar Sri Permaisuri on July 20 and 21. The theme of the event will be Cancer: Be aware. Prevent. Take action.
UCSIPharmCare is a community engagement project driven by students. The team engages orphanages and schools in rural areas with pharmaceutical workshops to educate the importance of pharmacist in the healthcare team ensuring safety of medications.
Final year student Karen who is also the chairperson of UCSIPharmCare 2018/19 hopes to reach out to more communities in the future.
The faculty dean, Assistant Prof Dr Mogana Sundari Rajagopal emphasised that she is focused on nurturing the next generation of professional and ethical pharmacists with innovative pharmacy practice and life-long learning. “At UCSI, our lecturers constantly incorporate latest drug development and hands-on techniques in their teaching and learning activities.”
UCSI’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences stands out for its 20 years track record of excellence in producing high-calibre pharmacists. More than 1,300 pharmacists have graduated from UCSI. The integration of research and teaching prepares students to acquire creativity and critical thinking in their pursuit of new knowledge.
Research attachments with University of Chicago, University of British Columbia and Nihon Pharmaceutical University among many others are provided to enrich the students with an eye-opening and unforgettable experience.
Clinical attachments at four major public hospitals, industrial attachments with 23 partners and community attachments in more than 106 pharmacies empowers the students and prepare them to excel in their professional career. Provisionally Registered Pharmacist (PRP) training in the area of research and development is provided by the faculty. Scholarships, education grants and financial assistance are offered to eligible students.
