Central location and cosy rooms

YOU would be forgiven for trying to check in to the wrong Hilton Garden Inn Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman along Kuala Lumpur’s bustling Chow Kit area.

After all, there is not one, but two hotels in the vicinity – North and South.

The relatively newer Hilton Garden Inn South is the one I’m staying at one rainy Saturday afternoon, but I find myself at the doorstep of its older sister hotel.

But since they are located practically next to each other, this little mishap just requires me to walk over next door.

Opened last year, Hilton Garden Inn South offers modern comforts in one of KL’s most popular areas.

In fact, the famous Chow Kit Market is located at the back of the hotel.

Such close proximity to one of the city’s largest marketplaces translates to a cacophony of sights, sounds and smells when you’re outdoors.

For those who have never been to this part of the city, the surroundings can be quite intimidating at first.

Once you step into the lobby of the hotel, though, suddenly the chaos outside seems a world away.

Minimally decorated with plenty of natural lighting, the space sets a casual and relaxing vibe for when you’re checking in.

This breezy vibe extends to my room too, where I’ve been booked into the twin guest room. The first thing I notice is how incredibly spacious the room is.

Most rooms here offer views of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers or KL Tower, and mine is no different. Lying on the comfortable bed while looking at the skyline of the city is certainly a great way to unwind.

There’s also the usual amenities to make the stay more comfortable. Complimentary WiFi is available in the room and throughout the hotel.

Those looking to stay active can always sweat it out at the 24/7 fitness centre. Do take note that it is located at the adjacent Hilton Garden Inn North.

I find this to be a hassle as you’ll need to brave the crowd outside after a solid workout. And for female guests, heading out for a night workout can be a deterring factor too.

The highlight would be the exquisite rooftop, with its bar and swimming pool. The open-air venue is great to just unwind with some music and a drink or two.

The daily buffet breakfast at the Garden Grille restaurant offers an extensive and delicious spread of both local and international favourites.

But if you’re looking to dine out, Kampung Baru is only a five-minute drive away (well, depending on traffic). The historic Malay enclave offers a variety of sumptuous delicacies.

If anything, Hilton Garden Inn South’s central location means that it’s close to a great public transportation network.

The property is about a fiveminute walk away from the Chow Kit Monorail station.

The free Go KL City Bus also runs through the area, which gives my companion and I a great avenue to explore KL during our little staycation in the city.
