PALATIAL homes, flashy cars and luxury goods – these are a few of YouTube celebrities’ favourite things to splurge on.

Jianhao Tan

The 26-year-old Singaporean with more than three million YouTube subscribers previously told entertainment magazine 8 Days that he bought his first car – a yellow second-hand Maserati GranTurismo – around 2015 for a six-figure sum from his earnings.

In an Instagram post on July 21, he said goodbye to the snazzy automobile. A week later, he showed off a shiny beauty which netizens identified as a BMW i8.

He proposed to his girlfriend Debbie Soon in March with the help of a string quartet. Two months later, they held a pictureperfect wedding at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa.

Tan has also used his money to do good. In 2015, he started The Jianhao Tan Foundation, which, according to an Asiaone article, has donated more than S$5,000 (RM15,000) worth of food, milk, snacks and toys to an orphanage in Vietnam.

Boram

While her peers were playing with Lego bricks or watching cartoons, this six-year-old girl bought a 9.5 billion won (RM33.4mil) property.

The South Korean owns a five-storey, 258 sq m building in Gangnam, one of Seoul’s most exclusive districts, The Korea Herald reported.

The purchase was made by the Boram Family, the company that operates the child’s two YouTube channels – Boram Tube ToysReview and Boram Tube Vlog, which have more than 13 million and 17 million subscribers respectively.

In her videos, the cute, cheerful girl typically plays with her family and friends. Her two channels are estimated to generate about 3.7 billion won a month.

Jeffree Star

Glamorous and flamboyant, this androgynous beauty influencer is not shy about flaunting his wealth.

In 2016, the American reportedly bought a six-bedroom house in Calabasas, California, and proceeded to decorate a large part of the interiors in pink.

The sassy 33-year-old, with more than 15 million YouTube subscribers, wears a different pair of sunglasses almost every day and has been collecting designer handbags for more than 20 years.

In May, he uploaded a video showcasing his pink vault closet and collection of handbags and luxury items, from brands such as Gucci, Fendi and Louis Vuitton, all protected behind bullet-proof walls. He is said to own a Hermes Himalaya Birkin bag that media reports have valued at US$379,200 (RM1.6mil).

He says: “I’m not going to tell you all the price, because you might slap me across my mouth ... If I ever want to sell it, I could buy a few homes.”

Alfie Deyes and Zoe Sugg

Dubbed the Jay-Z and Beyonce of the YouTube world, this British couple bought a seven-bedroom mansion in Brighton, Britain, worth £1.7mil (RM8.6mil).

The Sun newspaper reported that the pretty pair moved into the property, which has four bathrooms, five reception rooms and a beautiful large garden, in 2017.

In a video filmed on moving-in day, Sugg, now 29, says: “I hope it doesn’t come across like we are boasting. We are so aware that we are, like, in the luckiest position that we are able to do this.

“We are so grateful and we just feel so happy and lucky and so excited.”

Lilly Singh

Known by the moniker Superwoman, this 30-year-old has more than 14 million subscribers.

She was identified by Forbes as among the world’s highest-paid YouTube stars in 2017, earning a reported US$10.5mil (RM44mil).

The Canadian was also said to have received a six-figure advance on her 2017 book How To Be A Bawse: A Guide To Conquering Life, which was a New York Times bestseller.

In April, she uploaded a video about buying a new car, which she named Viserion. While fawning over the white vehicle, she said: “Say mum, did you get the big obnoxious wheels? Yes, I did.”

Jake Paul

The 22-year-old American with more than 19 million YouTube subscribers reportedly bought his first house in 2017, a 1,393 sq m mansion in Calabasas, California, for US$6.9mil (RM29mil), the Los Angeles Times reported.

Paul once said in a video that the house was so big, he had to call people on the phone to talk to them, adding: “So much space, I can basically do anything I want.”

That same year, he made another video about buying a blue Lamborghini Huracan Performante, said to cost US$350,000 (RM1.5mil).

As the vehicle was delivered to his home, he says: “Four years ago, I was sitting in class and my teachers (told) me I wouldn’t amount to anything ... Don’t let anyone tell you you cannot chase your dreams ... I couldn’t do this without you guys.” – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
