The green team
BRITISH fashion house Burberry has teamed up with the luxury consignment retailer The Realreal on a pilot scheme that will see fashion fans who consign Burberry pieces on the marketplace offered an exclusive personal shopping experience in select Burberry stores across the United States, through Jan 31 next year.
According to WWD, this will include champagne, high tea and a personal selection of the label’s new Burberry products to shop.
“Leading the way in creating a more circular economy for fashion is a key element of our responsibility agenda,” said Pam Batty, VP Corporate Responsibility, Burberry, in a statement published on the company’s website.
“The Realreal shares our ambition to promote the circular economy and keep clothing in use for longer. We know that the enduring quality of Burberry pieces means their appeal and value is long-lasting.
“Through this new partnership we hope to not only champion a more circular future but encourage consumers to consider all the options available to them when they’re looking to refresh their wardrobes.”
Burberry is not the only luxury brand to work closely with The Realreal with a view to making the fashion industry more sustainable – British designer Stella Mccartney has also partnered with the marketplace in the past.
Meanwhile, earlier this year the luxury online fashion retailer Farfetch began trialling Farfetch Second Life, a service that allows shoppers to use pre-loved designer bags as a way to earn store credit.
