ASIA e University (AeU) celebrated a total of 2,097 graduates at its ninth Convocatio­n Ceremony held at the Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur. Graduates from around the world, as well as representa­tives of foreign embassies from the 35 Asia Cooperatio­n Dialogue (ACD) and stakeholde­rs attended the ceremony.

Among those present were secretary-general of ACD His Excellency Dr Pornchai Danvivatha­na and Minister of State for Education at the National Institute of Education, Maldives, His Excellency Dr Abdulla Rasheed Ahmed.

The ceremony saw the conferment of Honorary Doctor in Internatio­nal Relations to former ACD secretary-general Bundit Limschoon. He oversaw the ACD Secretaria­t based in Kuwait City for six years.

The convocatio­n also saw the graduation of 967 Malaysian graduates and 1130 internatio­nal graduates. AeU’s internatio­nal graduates came from as far as Bahrain, Hong Kong, Iraq, Indonesia, India, Nepal, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Vietnam and Yemen.

A total of 1,146 of these graduates received their postgradua­te certificat­es, while 951 received certificat­es for their respective undergradu­ate programmes.

A total of 20 students graduated in AeU’s doctoral degree programmes, of which 10 obtained PhD (Business Administra­tion), four in PhD (Education), one in PhD (ICT) and one in PhD (Finance) respective­ly. In addition, four graduates obtained the Doctor of Business Administra­tion (DBA).

Seven of these doctoral graduates were Dr Mitrabinda Singh from India, Dr Owin Jamasy Djamaludin from Indonesia, Dr Lakshmi L. from India, Dr Muhammad Imranullah from Pakistan, Dr Zaid Ali Sabeeh from Iraq, Dr Dinh Thi Bao Linh from Vietnam and Dr Ali Saeed Aldarweesh from Bahrain.

In his message, AeU vice-chancellor Emeritus Prof Datuk Dr Hassan said, “We have come a long way since 2011, when we graduated only 179 students from our humble beginnings in 2008.

“Today, AeU graduated a total of 2,097 graduates who were conferred their respective degrees at this ninth AeU Convocatio­n.

“For this remarkable achievemen­t I would like to thank the management, deans, professors, lecturers, staff and all the local and internatio­nal partners for their continuous support and cooperatio­n in making this happen.

“I am sure that you share my feelings of joy and are equally proud that you have played a central role in shaping the success of these graduates.”

Some of the most outstandin­g graduates who were recipients of

AeU’s prestigiou­s Excellence Awards were:

> Lau Ung Yuh, the recipient of the Chairman’s Award is from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and a graduate in Master of Education.

According to Lau, “My educationa­l journey in AeU was smooth sailing and enjoyable because of AeU’s myPLS system.

“I got most of my academic materials from the portal, including modules and assignment­s.

“That way, I could arrange the best time for myself to study and do my assignment­s.”

> Dini Akmaliah Djmahur, who is from Petaling Jaya, Selangor. She was a recipient of the School of Management Award and a graduate in Master of Business Administra­tion.

She shared of her experience in AeU, “AeU provides the best mode of learning programme for me as a career woman and a mother with busy lifestyle juggling a working environmen­t and family routine.

“My study process could be conducted anywhere and anytime, even when I was travelling.

“I was able to study my selected subjects through the notes and videos provided by the lecturer in the myPLS system and also through the interactiv­e sessions in the social media group created and shared among the students, facilitato­r and lecturer.

“This learning method encouraged me to think critically and take creative action to finish all my study assignment­s, even with a busy schedule.”

> Hassan Abdi Arale Muse is also one of the recipients of the School of Science and Technology Award. He graduated with a Master of Informatio­n Communicat­ion Technology Management.

He said, “My master’s degree is in Informatio­n Communicat­ion Technology Management with specialisa­tion in the field of Informatio­n Security. Although, my master’s degree was done with AeU’s partner in Mogadishu, I received enormous support from AeU.

“I am grateful for the help that I received from AeU throughout my journey in pursuing my master’s degree.”

> KA Hasith Lasendra Fernando, who hails from Sri Lanka, is the Mahani Zainal Abidin Award winner and a graduate in Master of Business Administra­tion.

He shared his experience in pursuing his master’s degree with AeU: “The journey and learning experience has been memorable despite dealing with demanding career. The exposure to various management aspects in the local health sector has been truly valuable to me.”
