Treat yourself to a makeover
THINKING of a new look for the coming year? Here are some ideas to get you started.
Get clipping
Look through the fashion and glamour pages and cut out articles that have a style you love. Look at hair, make-up and dresses.
Experiment online
Take a picture of your self without makeup and your hair scraped back from your face.
Then check out virtual hairstyle sites to try out new hairstyles. It’s simple, free and fast.
Go for a haircut
Print out the pictures of your experiment that you like best and visit your hairdresser. Good questions to ask are: how long will it take me to look this good every day?
Or, what would it take to maintain this look in terms of colour, cutting, etc?
Make-up makeover
Many online sites allow you to try makeup looks too but it may be easier to try that out in real life.
If you’re going to splurge, visit your favourite brand counter and ask if they do free makeovers. If they don’t, get the girls round and spend an evening experimenting.
Nail makeover
Pick up your flip-flops and head to the nearest nail boutique for a manicure and pedicure. Discuss nail styles and see if you’re up for swapping rounded for square or vice versa.
If you’re not proficient with your nail file, watch closely and ask for tips on maintaining your nails.
Nice scent
A new look deserves a new signature scent. Perfumes needn’t cost a bomb – look for scented body sprays and essential oils that are safe to wear.
Hint: there are some excellent body sprays in the men’s section, too.
Empty your wardrobe
Try everything on. Be ruthless and give away everything that you don’t want.
Or, maybe you can swap clothes with friends at a bring and swap party.
Now try different combinations of the clothes you have left. You might find that by swapping things around, you can create several new look combinations.
