Training IT experts
WITH the vibrant, fast-evolving information and communications technology (ICT) industry and the advent of Industry Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) throughout the world, Malaysia is rapidly moving into a digital transformation future.
An Information Technology (IT) degree will be in high demand for graduates to rise above the competition and build a career in the field. The degree equips students with sought-after soft skills such as critical and strategic thinking and excellent communications, as well as offering proper coaching and industry exposure that will help students become IT experts in no time.
SEGi University has always understood the current job market, the industry and its needs. So, when it comes to embracing the latest technology and innovation developments in its study programmes to meet industry needs, and producing industryrelevant graduates, the School of Information Technology (SOIT) does not hesitate to go all out.
Given the current digital transformation and the IR4.0, SOIT continues to update the programmes offered to its IT students, collaborate with industry leaders and experts, and upgrade its computer laboratories to ensure its graduates own their future in the IT field.
SOIT empowers IT students academically by providing them with 21st century learning tools in its computer laboratories with the Google Digital Classrooms teaching facility.
This provides students with a “technology-enabled” learning environment that utilises technology to create a student-centred atmosphere and allows students to be self-directed learners, as well as prepare them for the digital workplace of the future.
SOIT is also committed to producing well-rounded IT graduates and experts who will contribute towards enhancing the national economic development and the ICT industry by creating a tech-literate workforce with future skills such as critical thinking, creativity and communication.
The school is also a qualified academy member of the Oracle Workforce Development Programme, Huawei ICT Academy, EC Council and Microsoft Imagine Academy, which provides students with the opportunity to gain professional knowledge that helps them achieve success in their career development.
IT students studying for the Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) can opt for a dual degree in partnership with the University of Central Lancashire, UK, gaining an international qualification at an affordable cost as well as international recognition with a 99% employability rate.
According to the January 2019 Monster Employment Index released by Monster.com, which tracks online hiring activity across Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines, there is unbridled enthusiasm for tech talent, as evidenced by the double-digit annual growth in hiring activity displayed by all three countries in December 2018.
Singapore exhibited the highest year-on-year growth in demand with 23%. Coming in second was Malaysia with 18% annual growth in demand for tech talent and the Philippines at 13%.
“IT graduates are in high demand in any fields, as well as at local and international companies, banks, SMEs and SMIs,” shared head of SEGi University’s SOIT Haw Wai Yee, adding that SEGi University graduate will have the advantages and opportunities to develop a successful career in the ICT field and become an IT expert.
