JULIE’S Manufacturing Sdn Bhd can stand to shout its success loud and proud after being named the Exporter of the Year in the Halal Products category. It is among Malaysia’s top consumer brands that have penetrated international markets, while maintaining its roots with local crowd pleasers.

Speaking to press after receiving the trophy was Julie’s Manufacturing sales and marketing director Martin Ang, who beamed with pride as he posed for photos with other team members from the company.

Ang, who has served with the company for more than three decades, firstly expressed his thanks, particularly to the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti), FMM and other associations “who have been giving us these platforms to move our products on to the world stage and to help us showcase our products.”

Working with Matrade, for instance, has helped Julie’s navigate its way through challenges including restrictions and regulations in the European Union marketplace, as well as geographical and tariff barriers.

Julie’s Manufacturing holds the accomplishment of exporting to over 80 countries, a fact reiterated by Ang, who added, “We are happy to receive this award, and of course Julie’s would not be exporting to markets in the Asia, the Middle East and Africa without the support of the Malaysian government, and also, we want to thank the other 80 countries without whose support we would not have achieved so much.”

Malaysians are capable of producing quality products, Ang remarked, while adding that the tremendous support of employees, workers and all teams at Julie’s have contributed to the company’s growth and success.

“Our teams have been with us through the good times and the bad, going through many learning curves, and I am proud to say we have a good team and good workers who are dedicated and who put a lot of love in their work,” he said.

Julie’s Manufacturing is wellknown for its products branded under Julie’s Biscuits, a muchloved staple in numerous households. The company, founded in 1981 by entrepreneur Su Chin Hock, has grown steadily to not only win awards such as the Best Regional Corporation at the Asia Halal Brand Awards in 2017, but has also placed itself as one of the top three brands in the country for biscuit production.

Company founder Su established the company on the premise that, at that time, 95% of the biscuits in the Malaysian market were imported brands. Subsequently, he embarked on a mission to showcase his confidence that Malaysian manufacturers were equally capable of producing biscuits that were fit for export abroad.

Julie’s first began exporting its products to the United States and Singapore in 1989, and today, has plans to expand its export footprint from 80 countries currently to 100 countries by 2025. The company also has eight distribution centres nationwide to help meet domestic demand.

The adaptation of stringent internal control within the company’s Halal Assurance System (HAS) ensures the halal integrity of its products, starting from the point of receiving raw materials until the dispatch of finished goods to consumers.
