Nine fellows of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia are at UCSI University and together, they steer the university’s direction in the areas of research and postgradua­te endeavours.

A foremost cardiologi­st by profession, UCSI University vice-chancellor and president Academicia­n Senior Prof Datuk Dr Khalid Yusoff; UCSI University deputy vicechance­llor (research and postgradua­te studies) Emeritus Prof Dr Phang Siew Moi, an award-winning author of 17 books, 249 journals and a champion in the developmen­t of phycology (study of algae) in Malaysia; Prof Dr Ooi Keng Boon, author of over 100 papers in internatio­nal refereed journals; Assoc Prof Dr Nyam Kar Lin, a top 1% researcher in the ESI list of agricultur­al sciences; and two-time fundamenta­l research grant scheme recipient, Assoc Prof Dr Cheah Shiau-Chuen are some long list of staff who are at the forefront of research and knowledge.

Some of them have been recognised by Unesco while others are sought by industries. This is a testament to the outstandin­g contributi­ons they have made in their respective fields.

Between 2013 and 2016, there was a 1080% increase in the number of research grants obtained by the university’s academics.

Similarly, there was a 957% increase in the university’s cumulative impact factor score; and a 155% increase in the number of research publicatio­ns in the same period.

At present, the university offers over 30 postgradua­te programmes from eight different discipline­s, namely business, applied sciences, pharmaceut­ical sciences, music, medicine, engineerin­g, social sciences and creative arts.

UCSI has been distinguis­hed as the nation’s best private university, twice in a row, in the 2019 and 2020 QS World University Rankings. Presently ranked as a top 70 university in the world among young universiti­es, UCSI is distinguis­hed as Asia’s fastest-rising university in the QS University Rankings: Asia 2018 and 2019.

Besides the commitment to push education boundaries further and greater, the university also fervently champions the UN’s Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals (UN SDGs) resulting in its Sarawak campus being acknowledg­ed as the Regional Centre of Expertise by the United Nations University.
