Start your tertiary studies right
HAVING provided pre-university education for over 50 years, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) is positioned to offer school-leavers comprehensive pathways as they weigh their options after SPM.
Conducted by the Centre for Pre-University Studies (CPUS), the Foundation in Arts and Science adequately prepare students for TAR UC’s undergraduate programmes. For a more specialised pathway, CPUS offers Foundation in Accounting, Foundation in Business, Foundation in Engineering and Foundation in Computing, which provide a firm grounding to progress to undergraduate studies in the corresponding disciplines.
Foundation in Accounting offers a number of accountancy and commerce-based courses whereas Foundation in Business focuses more on business-related subjects.
On the other hand, Foundation in Engineering offers a number of science-based courses related specifically to the field of engineering.
Lastly, Foundation in Computing offers a number of computer science and IT-related subjects, which will resonate well with students with an interest to pursue advanced studies in computer science, information technology, information systems and software engineering.
Realising the demand for data scientists in the future, Lim Pei Ying enrolled in the Foundation in Computing programme with the aim of furthering her studies in TAR UC’s Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) in Software Engineering programme.
“As technology continues to progress, I’m sure there will be more and more technological advancements that will require professionals with the right skill set. After doing some research, I found that TAR UC has a good track record of producing graduates who are well sought after by the industries,” she said.
Meanwhile, Zoe Chan Wei Qi decided to enrol in the Foundation in Business programme as it exposes her to a variety of different business-related aspects, which will help her to gain a solid start in the business field.
“This programme provides a wide range of business related subjects to explore. Moreover, the syllabus encourages us to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills through assignments and presentations. My lecturers and tutors are really friendly and approachable so it makes learning easier and more fun. I’ve learned so much from them and I wouldn’t have been able to make it this far without their help,” she said.
After the completion of the one-year foundation programme, students can proceed to enter Year 1 of TAR UC’s threeyear or four-year bachelor’s degree programmes. CPUS currently offers six foundation programmes, which enable smooth progression to 50 bachelor’s degree programmes in TAR UC.
