Unlock your true potential
WHEN it comes to selfimprovement for career progression, education plays an influential step in enhancing your skills and can help you stay competitive and achieve your professional goals.
Furthering one’s education at a university often brings this to mind – attending face-to-face lectures and tutorials, rushing to meet assignment deadlines, presenting the work done individually or in groups and sitting for exams. For working professionals, daily commitments, attending face-toface lectures and tutorials may be a concern.
Working professionals who are interested in the MSC in Public Health, MSC in Molecular Medicine and MSC in Analytical and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at International Medical University (IMU) in Kuala Lumpur have the option to pursue their studies with the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.
This mode of learning provides flexibility and convenience as students can schedule their studies around their obligations while still receiving all the support and services available to on-campus students. This allows them to plan and pace their own learning at a time and learning environment that is most suitable to them.
Seeking such convenience and flexibility from a MSC in Public Health programme is Dr Anuradha Nadarajah, a doctor with a decade of working experience. She chose to study at IMU as she wanted a degree from a well-established medical and health sciences university to progress in her career.
Mohd Khamizi Aziz, a 12-year healthcare professional, says “I chose to study at IMU to enhance my knowledge in public health and contribute more to my workplace. The programme’s flexibility was definitely an attraction as I am normally extremely busy at work.”
Khairunniza Gharib agrees, adding, “This programme is suitable for the working adult as the flexibility allows us to plan our schedule to achieve worklife balance. I believe IMU provides quality education and the degree will provide me with good prospects for the future. With the knowledge gained from this degree, I intend to conduct projects to give back to the community.”
Staying in Penang is another student from the same cohort, Sheema Gunasegaram, who intends to further her career. With less than a year of working experience, she wanted to enhance her knowledge with a MSC in Public Health that is recognised by the Public Service Department (JPA) while spending less on travelling expenses.
For these students, who joined the university’s inaugural ODL intake on Sept 10, studying via open and distance learning at IMU has clearly provided them with an alternative to conventional programmes, giving them the opportunity to earn a university degree without interrupting their career.
The next intake for the master’s programme will be in March next year. Online applications are open now.
IMU also offers other postgraduate programmes, including taught Master in Science programmes in Public health, analytical and pharmaceutical chemistry, molecular medicine and acupuncture, master of pharmacy practice, Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Diabetes Management and Education, Postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry, postgraduate programmes in health professions education and MSC and PHD by research.
