Best of luck

-

A LUCKY charm is an item that is believed to bring someone good luck. It could be a coin, button or badge. Do you have specific things that you consider to be lucky charms? A keychain or bracelet perhaps?

Some people carry lucky charms as a symbol of good fortune. Ancient Irish believe that four-leaf clovers are a symbol of luck. It is said the four leaves stand for faith, hope, love and luck.

Did you know that horseshoes are one of the best-known lucky charms too? Hanging a horseshoe heels up is supposed to keep the good luck from running out of the shoe. Hanging it heels down will cause the good luck to flow down on everyone who walks underneath it.

Recently, we asked Starchild readers to send in letters on the topic, Lucky Charms. Here’s what they have to say.

“My lucky charm is a pillow. It helps me catch bad dreams. I keep a special prayer in my pillow,” says Howard Pang Kang Haw, 10.

Nine-year-old Flora Sia’s pink blouse is her lucky charm. “My pretty blouse is my lucky charm.

Whenever I wear the blouse, I always win the game of snakes and ladders.”

“I have a pendant in the shape of a fourleaf clover. People believe it brings good luck and represents fame and wealth,” writes Yeo Min Xin ,10.

Eight-year-old Angele Ng Xuan En’s lucky charm is made out of Lego bricks. “I think my special charm gives me luck. It keeps me safe too. It love it because it’s small and I can carry it wherever I go.” Joshua Kim, nine, says: “A lucky charm gives you luck. Popular lucky charm items are jade, horseshoe and wishbone.”
