UMW Toyota Motor restarts production

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd has resumed manufacturing operations through its subsidiary, Assembly Services Sdn Bhd (ASSB), following a hiatus after the movement control order (MCO) was carried out nationwide.

ASSB has two assembly plants in Selangor and the one at the Bukit Raja Industrial Park commenced operations on May 11.

The second plant in Shah Alam will commence operations on June 9.

ASSB has also stepped up workplace safeguards for its 2,000 employees.

The new rules implemented included compulsory temperature checks; ensuring workers maintain a one-metre distance from each other; mandatory use of hand sanitisers and face masks; and sanitisation of plant thrice daily.

Where necessary, working hours and workflows are adjusted to maximise safety.

“With the resumption of operations, we hope to help boost the economy and add momentum to the automotive industry and business,” said UMW Toyota Motor president Ravindran K.

“Toyota Motor Corporation is serious about providing safe and healthy conditions for all employees. As a member of the global Toyota family, ASSB can therefore draw on healthcare advice and best practices from Toyota regarding additional measures that can be taken here in Selangor,” said UMW Toyota Motor deputy chairman Akio Takeyama.

The MCO has entered its fifth stage with more relaxed rules and is scheduled to end on June 9. It began on March 18.
