Covid, Covid, go away

- By SUNITHA SAMARAWICKRAMA

Covid, Covid, go away don’t come back another day it’s 1am and i can’t sleep i’m thinking that you’re such a *(bleep)*

rounded us up like a flock of sheep Who you think you are ?? Little Bo Peep? What’s more, put us in quarantine My god! you really are very mean

it’s been two months of staying home Cooking, cleaning, fiddling with the phone No swimming, no yoga, no jalan-jalan open fridge ... just makan-makan

it’s shocking how a minuscule germ Has crippled humanity and stood firm Entering like a poltergeist, an unseen ghost in human bodies who are now the hosts

People sick and dying everywhere

From Milan, to Seoul, to delaware, a global pandemic, never did we dream Would steal our freedom, like a thief it would seem

Covid-19 just go away

But who is going to save the day? it’s us, all of us, i think Together we swim, we cannot sink

We need to relearn like a spring leaf unfurled How to function in this world

Money, economies and global wealth comes to nought if there’s no health

Covid appeared to teach us a lesson To make us pause, alas! to stop and listen To change our ways and be kinder To each other and to Mother Nature

No More dying, No More ...

Enough 2020! Stop it now

We welcomed a new decade but sadly, somehow you came and unleashed a wrath so great and left a devastation in your wake

as we hurtle towards mid year

Let us try to work together

To help eradicate this shocking plague By staying home, not being vague

By being accountable for our actions

For understanding that this grave situation

Will not end, will not surrender

The white flag, the olive branch – we alone must be the bearers

We are sorry, Mother Earth

For plundering and pillaging

For raping, and killing, for taking more than we needed

you’ve unleashed your wrath your sorrow, your disappointment your heartbreak at our greedy dispositions Please forgive us, we see our fate

We only hope that it’s not too late

So here’s to a new world, one that’s kind

To the flowers, the trees, the animals that we find Here’s to rainbows and dragonflies and a million stars above of green forests, blue rivers and sweet turtle doves

Here’s to the warm rain in tropical lands

The freezing cold nights in desert sands Here’s to the dark secrets of the deepest oceans The snow on which angels dance in the Himalayan mountains

Here’s to kindness, to empathy, to loving hearts Here’s to warm hugs, to sharing, to a new start Here’s to true smiles, and helping hands forever Here’s to new eyes when this is all over

and here’s my hope for 2021

That we move forward, together as one as wiser humans, ready and willing To put in the work and start the healing

God knows we’ve suffered a lot but Time heals all wounds, it always does We’ll have to be patient and ride it out and as they say, this too shall pass

and so my friends i bid you adieu Sekarang i nak pergi tidur Tomorrow i hope that there’ll be good news

No More dying, No More, No More ...
