-

MAZDA, the Japanese car brand that’s known for its “zoom-zoom” tagline, has unveiled its RX-Vision GT3 Concept virtual race car.

The car has been jointly developed with Polyphony Digital - the folks that brought the popular Gran Turismo racing game for Sony Interactive Entertainment’s PlayStation gaming console.

The virtual race car can be found in the Gran Turismo game title and the company says that players from all over the world will be able to drive it on all of the game’s set courses from May 22.

The game has been certified and promoted by Fédération

Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA - French for International Federation of Automobiles) association.

Players who use Mazda vehicles that include the RX-Vision GT 3 Concept in the game will automatically be granted seed rights to participate in the FIA-certified Gran Turismo Championship (World Tour) in various international locations for the 2020 season.

In the virtual realm, the car has been modified in accordance with the FIA GT3 race car regulations.

Power comes from a naturally-aspirated next-generation quad-rotor SkyActiv-R engine and takes its styling cues from the Mazda RX-Vision concept first seen at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2015. Power is rated at 570PS at 9,000rpm with maximum torque of 540Nm at 7,500rpm.

According to the Japanese carmaker, the engine has been mounted behind the front axle with power going to the rear wheels.

This gives it a 48:52 front-rear weight distribution of its 1,250kg heft which the front-double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspension system takes care of.

The vehicle has a 2,700mm wheelbase and measures in at 4,590-long, 2,075mm-wide and 1,120mm-tall and rolls on 18-inch wheels with 310mm-wide, 700mm inflated-diameter Michelin racing slick tyres.
