A fighting spirit for victory

-

INSPIRED by the great achievement of Russian professional mixed martial artist Khabib Nurmagomedov, Muhammad Nurhaziq Rusly, 20, always keeps pushing and reminding himself about the importance of selfdiscipline and fighting spirit in a journey towards success.

A Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management and Piloting, Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering student at Management and Science University (MSU), he recently won the bronze medal in the 2019 Chungju World Martial Arts Masterships in South Korea.

His involvement in martial arts started when he was just five by attending Taekwondo classes.

“I must give credit to both my parents because they introduced me to this sport as a way to channel my childhood energy,” he shared.

Muhammad Nurhaziq then continued to learn other martial arts such as Judo, Yongmudo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Tong-il Moo-Do.

“This has helped to strengthen my mental discipline, increase my focus, release stress and keep my body fit.

“To commit to both studies and martial arts is not a big problem for me since training is normally done during weekends and weekday nights,” he said.

The Chungju World Martial Arts Masterships 2019 was his first ever tournament.

“Before this, I have been invited to compete in several tournaments inside and outside Malaysia, but I had to decline due to some financial issues and commitment towards my studies.

“I would like to thank my family for their continuous encouragement and financial support, which enabled me to join the competition.”

Muhammad Nurhaziq is looking forward to participating in more tournaments in the future, not only to continue his passion in martial arts, but also because as a student he strongly believes this enriches his soft skills and learning experiences.
