Welcoming a new dean

CURTIN University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) has appointed Prof Andreas H. Zins (pic )asthe new dean of its Faculty of Business. Prof Zins brings some 30 years of experience in higher education to the position. Prior to this, he was the dean of a dual-degree programme and Full

Prof of Tourism Management at MODUL School of Tourism and Hospitalit­y Management Nanjing (affiliated to Nanjing Tech University Pujiang Institute), adjunct Full Prof of Tourism Management at MODUL University Vienna and Adjunct Assoc Prof of Marketing at University of Economics and Business, Vienna, Austria.

He also served as programme director (vice-dean) for Business Administra­tion study programmes at WU Wien (University of Economics and Business, Vienna) and as academic director for Certificat­e Programmes for the Tourism Academy Austria and the WU Wien Executive Academy.

Prof Zins’ publicatio­n record is also impressive, having published five books, edited four other books, contribute­d 31 book chapters, 30 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, 48 contributi­ons in refereed conference proceeding­s, 71 peerreview­ed conference presentati­ons, 22 invited conference presentati­ons and 68 research reports.

From 2013 to 2016, he served as editor-inchief of the Internatio­nal Journal of Culture, Tourism and Hospitalit­y Research.

Curtin Malaysia pro vice-chancellor, president and chief executive Prof Simon Leunig said he is very pleased to welcome Prof Zins to Curtin University and the Malaysian campus – Curtin’s largest internatio­nal campus and global hub in Asia.

“As a leading Australian university serving the educationa­l and research needs of Sarawak, Malaysia and the region, we need academic leaders of outstandin­g calibre to ensure we maintain the highest quality and excellence,” Prof Leunig remarked.

“Prof Zins joins us as a highly respected academic and experience­d leader in the business domain. His extensive and successful European and internatio­nal leadership and research experience in business-related academic areas will no doubt help him as the new dean of our Faculty of Business in continuing its tradition of excellence and in expanding our internatio­nal reach.”

Meanwhile, Prof Zins said he is looking forward to working with his colleagues at Curtin Malaysia and leading the Faculty of Business.

“Despite the challenges of an increasing­ly competitiv­e and global market, and the economic hardship brought about by the global pandemic, I’m buoyed by the tremendous progress the faculty has made in recent years in terms of advances in learning and teaching, programme accreditat­ion and research,” commented Prof Zins.
