Is Malaysian actress Daniella Sya too sexy for social media?
AS someone who has been in the public eye since she was 16 years old, Daniella Sya Yeng Yeng or professionally known as Daniella Sya (pic) is not too shy posting personal photos of herself on Instagram.
Some of these are of her by the beach in swimsuits and in her workout outfits.
The 32-year-old, who was born in Sungai Petani, Kedah and grew up in Kuala Lumpur, sees social media as an open medium.
She told Starlifestyle: “I can post whatever I want, and the public can comment whatever they want.
“Also, I feel that if you post such pictures, you have to be able to accept the comments that come with them.
“And as an actress, this is within my job scope, to be able to receive comments, good or bad.”
On Sept 4, Sya expanded her social media reach by starting her own Youtube channel. In her first ever video, she takes on the persona of a Japanese housewife named Kimiko.
When pressed on, Sya said most of the unpleasant comments on Instagram is because many think she’s a Muslim.
That assumption, the Chinesemalaysian theorised, comes from the fact that she acts in many Malay films and TV dramas, in which she speaks Malay fluently. While her Malay and English are excellent, she confessed she can’t speak Chinese.
Her career in showbiz began as a model, before she became a radio deejay for a couple of years.
She then ventured into acting, first in an Astro telefilm followed by English and Malay dramas produced by Mediacorp Singapore starting from 2012.
She was signed on as a Mediacorp artiste, and starred in Singaporean dramas such as Keong Saik Street, Mata Mata and S.O.S.
“I had a very traumatic experience in Singapore which made me quit acting for a while. I came back to Malaysia,” she said, refusing to elaborate further.
“Then one year or two years later, in 2017, I was offered a part in RTM drama Aurora Aishah. I had kind of missed acting at that point, and so I started again.”
Fortunately for Sya, projects kept coming her way. She has since acted in shows such as Miss Kapten Cikgu Waiz, Dosa, KL Gangster Underworld and Jodoh-jodoh Annisa.
Sya is currently starring in the movie Takut Ke Tak, playing the role of a ghost named Cantik.
“This year was supposed to be a busy year for me. I had four projects I was in that were supposed to have come out – Takut Ke Tak, Abang Long Fadhil 3, Talbis Iblis and the drama series KL Gangster 2 .But because everything is postponed, I am not sure of their schedules now.”
She also has two dramas yet to be filmed.
Although cautious about going back to filming amid the pandemic, Sya is confident that as long as everyone follows the standard operating procedure, it should be safe.
When asked if she draws a line on certain things when posting things on social media, Sya answered: “I would talk about family and friends. But there are certain things I am not too comfortable to share, like romantic relationships. That is something really important and pure to me. So I would like to keep it that way.”
