Proton X50 previewed
This soon-to-be launched compact sports utility vehicle can be booked for RM500.
NATIONAL carmaker Proton has unveiled and rolled out the highly anticipated X50 compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) at its Tanjung Malim plant on Tuesday.
The B-segment SUV is expected to be launched soon with pricing to be announced then.
The X50 is the second all-new Proton model after the X70 to result from Proton’s partnership with Geely.
It is offered in four variants of Standard, Executive, Premium and Flagship.
The X50 also comes with a fresh interpretation of the Ethereal Bow front grille with Infinite Weave pattern which is the current styling of Proton cars.
Proton has not confirmed details about the X50’s engine output but the Standard, Executive and Premium variants will be powered by a 3-cylinder 1.5-litre turbocharged engine.
However, the Flagship range-topper will receive a high output 1.5-litre turbocharged gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine.
All variants get a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to send power to the front wheels.
The 1.5T Standard comes fitted with 17-inch wheels, full LED headlights, 8.0-inch wide and full-colour touchscreen infotainment unit with reverse camera, four airbags, fabric seats and rear air vents.
The 1.5T Executive variant gets additional items such as six airbags, leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, automatic headlights, front fog lights and leatherette seats.
In the 1.5T Premium variant, the list of goodies expands with tyre pressure monitoring system, larger 18-inch wheels with 215/55 series tyres, driver-side powered seat, 360-degree camera system and a larger 10-inch infotainment unit.
The 1.5TGDI Flagship will receive Advanced Driver Assistance System, dual-tone exterior and a panoramic roof.
Colour choices are Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey and Ocean Grey along with two new colours of Citric Orange and Passion Red.
Proton opened its order book for the X50 yesterday with a booking fee of RM500.
The company is inviting the public to vote for one of four slogans on its official website.
It will also be holding roadshows to showcase the X50 in major towns from this weekend.
