Hybrid option for UK study
THE financial burden of sending one’s child to university overseas for three years is one that few Malaysian families can afford. Fortunately, the University of Reading (UK) offers a more affordable, hybrid solution.
Renowned for the quality of its teaching, research and graduate employability, the University of Reading is consistently ranked in the Top 100 in the world for International Outlook by the Times Higher Education (2022).
With an international branch campus in Malaysia, students can start their studies closer to home, with the option to spend one or even two years studying at the university’s campus in Reading UK.
The university’s branch campus in Malaysia first opened the doors to its iconic, state-of-the-art complex in 2015. Located in EduCity Iskandar, students have access to world-class sports facilities and a student-centric environment that is both conducive to study and well-being without unnecessary distractions.
The campus offers degrees from the university’s world-leading schools in the following disciplines:
> Accounting and finance
> Finance and business management
> Management and business
>Law
> Psychology (with or without a one year professional placement)
> Quantity surveying
> Real estate
The programmes are identical to those on the UK campus, following the same curriculum and academic quality standards, and upon graduation, students are awarded the same University of Reading degree. Benefits of UK experience
The experience of living and studying in the UK provides many benefits including the opportunity to:
> meet new friends and expand your network
> embrace a new culture and environment
> enhance your intercultural awareness
> develop your independence
> improve your spoken English > learn from different academic staff members
> sample different learning methods and approaches
> showcase your global awareness on your CV
In general, the university recommends that students complete Year 1 at the Malaysia campus and, if they wish, spend Year 2 studying in the UK.
Students can then decide whether they would like to return to the Malaysia campus for Year 3 or stay in the UK.
Although Malaysian students are charged international fees for studying on the UK campus, this hybrid option means they only do so for one or two years rather than three.
