THIS Hari raya aidilfitri, The Exchange TRX in Kuala Lumpur is celebrating the festive season with the launch of its Magnificence of raya campaign, which runs till april 21.

Enriched with a batik theme, the campaign represents a visual and experiential spectacle inspired by the traditional Malaysian fabric that transforms the mall into a showcase of the local Malay community’s culture, tradition and art.

“The richness and allure of Malay culture is undeniable, and it has embedded itself into many facets of Malaysian life, transcending different communities and ethnicities,” says The Exchange TRX project director and Lendlease Malaysia head of retail Mitch Wilson.

“as the social heart of the country’s international financial centre, the Magnificence of raya celebrates the splendour of traditional Malay culture and highlights its role in shaping the architecture, design and art of contemporary Malaysia.

“Our goal is to create opportunities for mutual cultural understanding and appreciation between local communities at The Exchange TRX.”

Cultural experience

as part of the campaign, The Exchange TRX will be adorned with batik-inspired decorative displays throughout the mall, including the entrances, interior and TRX City Park.

“Beyond the elaborate displays that adorn Central Exchange, our entrances and various public spaces including TRX City Park, we have also made it a point to incorporate cultural performances to create a more immersive experience for all our guests,” says Wilson.

There will be a giant light box installation placed at TRX City Park, inspired by the traditional Malay woven leaf rice dish that is synonymous with Hari raya – the ketupat.

The Magnificence of raya will take over the mall’s Central Exchange area, which will serve as the epicentre of cultural experiences for guests, as it will feature a “kampung house” as a display of classic Malay architecture, motifs and batik designs.

There will even be a giant mechanical flower exhibit that mimics Malaysia’s natural landscape and the plethora of endemic flora – aligned with the traditional floral batik motifs.

apart from decorations, the mall will also be organising weekly cultural performances every weekend at Central Exchange, to ring in the Hari raya mood. These include traditional silat performances, zapin and joget rakyat dance performances, musical acts by kompang and cak lempong troupes and wayang kulit shows.
