Tajuddin on benefits of exchange linkage
KUALA LUMPUR: The benefits of linking up Asean stock exchanges in a single platform will outweigh its challenges, according to Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Tajuddin Atan.
He said the idea of Asean stock market integration would sell the region as a highly investable asset class under the Asean brand.
“We are looking at six countries, seven exchanges, a total 3,600 listed companies, 247 brokerages and 24,991 remisiers – the numbers speak for itself. We are also looking at cross-border trading, cross-border issuances and the mobilisation of Asean huge retail savings.
“The upside of this is the creation would be a formidable marketplace and this where the excitement is all about,” hesaid during a plenary session on Asean Economic Community: Single market multiple benefits? yes-
