Search for MAS CEO is on, says Khazanah
PETALING JAYA: Khazanah Nasional Bhd said it is on a global search for a new chief executive officer for Malaysia Airlines (MAS) from among Malaysian and foreign leadership talent.
It said the search continued and that a final decision on a new CEO would be made after due consideration and in consultation with the special shareholder, the Minister of Finance Inc.
It added that at this point in time, no person had been appointed the new CEO of MAS, and that reports were speculative and premature.
StarBiz yesterday reported that MAS would have a foreigner as its CEO, who would be given the mandate to chart the restructuring of the company as well as see through its results over the next five years.
However, another media report quoting sources named the outgoing CEO of Aer Lingus, Christoph Muller, as a possible candidate.
Khazanah said the search forms part of efforts to strengthen the leadership of the airline, as called for under the 12-point MAS Recovery Plan that it announced in August to revive the ailing airline.
