KUALA LUMPUR: Lejadi Group via its bumiputra construction subsidiary, Lejadi Infra Sdn Bhd (LISB), has signed a joint-venture agreement with Chinese company Global Solar Co Ltd to jointly bid for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects of solar and renewable energy plants in Malaysia.

Global Solar is a subsidiary under the Sumec Group Corp in China and the joint-venture is poised to set up a large scale solar plant EPC company in Malaysia.

LISB holds a 51% stake in the joint venture while the remaining belongs to Global Solar.

“We have formalised our faith and intention to fully employ our combined expertise in joint bidding for EPC of solar and renewable energy plants in Malaysia and Asean .

“Sumec has selected LISB as a joint-venture partner for implementing renewable energy projects in Malaysia and very likely Asean too as they must have looked into Lejadi’s track record in successfully implementing Malaysia’s first independent power production project and some other aspects of our track record,” Lejadi Group chairman Tan Sri Lim Ewe Jin told the press after the signing ceremony yesterday.

“In solar power plants, land and location are the two most important factors to place the photovotaic panels.

“For every MW to be produced, we need four acres of land

“The Government is looking at producing 250MW of solar energy every year until 2020. Each plant of 250MW would cost US300mil or RM1.3bil approximately,” he said.

It was reported in January that the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry (KeTTHA) will be calling for a request for proposal (RFP) to develop 250-megawatt (MW) capacity generation from utility-scale solar power plants this year, quoting its secretary-general Datuk Loo Took Gee.

“We will be issuing an RFP for 250MW solar power plants this year and the capacity of these plants should come on stream from 2018 onwards,” she said in the news report.

Meanwhile Sumec Clean Energy Holdings Co Ltd executive vice-general manager Li Rongkun said the group is also a manufacturer of photovotaic panels.

“We have been doing work in Europe, Asian and China where we have collective installed and designed up to 1GW solar power plants,” he said,
