Bringing skincare to the fore

EUGENE He has been experimenting with skin cream for as long as he can remember. While boys his age were playing with toys, eightyear-old He would be in a “lab” carrying out experiments on some herb or plant from his kitchen or garden.

Today, the 34-year-old is the founder of cosmetics brand Ceramiracle.

His eureka moment came in 2015 when he claimed to have found a key ingredient for his anti-ageing skincare solution.

“I was in the lab experimenting on some topical formulations and suddenly, I realised the psoriasis on my index finger, which I had since childhood, was gone. I knew I had found the right formula and so I gave the cream out to my friends to try. The positive feedback inspired me to sell it online,” says He.

Among his current products are First Light The Serum and Reboot Mask.

Last year, he teamed up with a few partners from Singapore and Malaysia to launch Ceramiracle’s first local flagship store in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. The outlet took up an investment of more than RM400,000.

He hopes to open four more branches here in locations such as Penang and East Malaysia.

Ceramiracle also operates in Singapore and Los Angeles.

The beauty store also comes with a cafe, which carries over 30 different organic tea blends to complement its skincare products.

“A beauty cafe within the premises is not only functional, it also gives us the best opportunity to share with our clients on how they can benefit from common food ingredients by including them in our skin-care routine.

“The cafe also serves pastries, cakes and coffee. My favourite is the black charcoal dark chocolate cake. This decadent butter cake contains black charcoal powder to help detoxify the body. Rose, lychee and coconut water infused drinks are also on the menu,” adds He.

His favourite concoction on the menu is Truly Asia tea, a sweet fruity blend made of papaya, pineapple, lemongrass and butterfly pea flower, which gives the drink its intriguing shade of deep blue.

“People tend to think of beauty and skincare as two separate things. For me, beauty is some- thing that is integrated into every aspect of my life,” says He, who studied clinical naturopathy in ACNT Australia.

“Take carotenoids, for example. It can control melanin synthesis and help with pigmentation problems and food with antioxidants can undo some of the damage caused by free radicals and sometimes, stimulate collagen synthesis. But you have to consume these foods regularly for maximum benefit,” he says.

He says the aesthetics salon integrates Ceramiracle’s proprietary facial treatments to give its customers a distinctive experience.

One of He’s recommendations to customers is the “Celebrity Facial” session, which deeply hydrates, firms and remodels, smooth fine lines, lightens dark spots and brightens complexion. It is targeted for all visible signs of ageing, He says.

“This holistic and high-performing personalised beauty regimen restores youthful beauty in just one session. This is a personalised experience enjoyed by all our customers. It feels like you’ve just had a million-dollar makeover,” says Ada Hong, the beauty therapist who carries out facial treatments at Ceramiracle.

He says its products have been rigorously tested and made in facilities that adhere to the Good Manufacturing Practice protocols recommended by the US Food and Drug Administration.
