Rakuten Trade wins Malaysia fintech company of the year award

KUALA LUMPUR: Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd, a joint venture company of Kenanga Investment Bank Bhd and Japan’s Rakuten Securities Inc was named fintech company of the year at the Malaysia fintech awards 2018.

Rakuten Trade is Malaysia’s first completely online equity broker which extends trading services including the localised version of Japan’s leading mobile app called iSPEED.my.

Its web and mobile-based trading services offer clients a fully digital trading experience from account opening, execution, settlement of trade, research and trading ideas as well as rewards knowledge.

Organised by Persatuan Usahawan Dinamik and endorsed by Malaysian Communicat­ions and Multimedia Commission, the Malaysia fintech awards recognised the achievemen­ts made by local fintech players.

The award was presented to Rakuten Trade in recognitio­n of it being a fintech company that has successful­ly changed the industry and fulfilled a real market need through its unique value propositio­ns.

It has found a balance between cost and benefits and was able to extend its products and services to and financial reach the marketplac­e.

The award was presented by Minister of Finance II Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani to Rakuten Trade chairman Datuk Chay Wai Leong, member of the board of director Lee Kok Khee and managing director Kaoru Arai.

“This collaborat­ion with the highly successful Japan-based e-commerce brand Rakuten, has accelerate­d tremendous cross-learning,” Chay said in a statement.

Yuji Kusunoki, president of Rakuten Securities said Rakuten Trade was the result of the first overseas collaborat­ion for Rakuten Securities.
