Non-performing Feed-in Tariff projects revoked

KUALA LUMPUR: Sustainabl­e Energy Developmen­t Authority (Seda) Malaysia has revoked non-performing Feed-in Tariff (FiT) projects in total of 155.7256 MW last month and will release a total quota of 114.5682 MW for eligible applicants to apply.

The small hydro category will have a quota of 74.5682 MW for applicatio­ns expected to achieve commercial operations by 2020 and 2021. The quota allocated for biogas is 30 MW whereas for biomass is 10 MW; these quota are for applicatio­ns achieving commercial operations by 2021.

This announceme­nt was made by, Energy, Science, Technology, Environmen­t and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin at the opening of the Internatio­nal Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition (IGEM) 2018 yesterday morning.

According to Yeo, Seda will also conduct the inaugural exercise of e-bidding for their biogas quota. The aim of the e-bidding process is to create a better pricing efficiency for electricit­y generated from the biogas resources through healthy competitio­n.

Seda Malaysia will first conduct its gamma testing of the e-bidding system together with the biogas industry on 25th October 2018 and the actual e-bidding will commence on 19th November 2018. Interested applicants can submit their applicatio­ns through the e-FiT online system (efit.Seda.gov.my) during Q4 of 2018.

Seda will announce the dates of applicatio­ns one month before the opening period to ensure fairness in the process.
