KFC Malaysia ties up with SoCar of South Korea

PETALING JAYA: KFC Malaysia has part­nered with SoCar, a South Korea-based car-shar­ing ap­pli­ca­tion, to in­tro­duce 12 ad­di­tional SoCar zones in se­lected KFC out­lets in Kuala Lumpur and Jo­hor Baru.

QSR Brands (M) Hold­ings Bhd, the fran­chisee of KFC Malaysia, de­scribed the part­ner­ship as a “unique op­por­tu­nity” for the fast­food chain and ex­pects the col­lab­o­ra­tion to pro­vide a fur­ther push in its mar­ket­ing ini­tia­tives.

A to­tal of seven SoCar zones will be in­tro­duced in se­lected KFC out­lets in Kuala Lumpur, while the re­main­ing five will be lo­cated in Jo­hor Baru. With the 12 new lo­ca­tions, the to­tal num­ber of SoCar zones in Malaysia has risen to 475.

“Car-shar­ing is the most re­cent ad­di­tion to con­tem­po­rary ur­ban life and it has been pro­gres­sively trans­form­ing the lives of our com­mu­nity. Through this part­ner­ship, we are en­cour­ag­ing the smart mo­bil­ity move­ment that we op­ti­misti­cally be­lieve is the fu­ture.

“At the heart of it, we are mak­ing use of the tech­nolo­gies avail­able to con­tin­u­ously en­hance the con­ve­nience of our cus­tomers,” said QSR Brands man­ag­ing di­rec­tor Datuk Seri Mo­hamed Aza­hari Kamil.

Fol­low­ing the part­ner­ship, cus­tomers of KFC and SoCar will be able to en­joy bonus re­wards such as SoCar dis­counts, com­pli­men­tary SoCar hours and KFC De­liv­ery e-vouch­ers dur­ing the cam­paign pe­riod be­tween Dec 5, 2018 and Feb 28, 2019.

KFC De­liv­ery cus­tomers will also en­joy SoCar dis­counts for the du­ra­tion of the cam­paign. With a min­i­mum spend of at least RM40 (in­clud­ing de­liv­ery fee and 6% ser­vice tax) in one trans­ac­tion, cus­tomers will be able to en­joy RM40 off their next SoCar book­ing (ex­clud­ing BMW and Mini Cooper).

The par­tic­i­pat­ing KFC out­lets equipped with SoCar zones can be iden­ti­fied with in-app mark­ers and users will be of­fered a 20% dis­count off all book­ings made from these out­lets.

Un­like cur­rent ride-share ser­vices which func­tion like taxis, SoCar pro­vides short term car rentals, start­ing at 30 min­utes.

Ac­cord­ing to its site, users can rent the car us­ing its An­droid or iOS app for as low as RM8 an hour, which in­cludes 30km worth of petrol, though an ad­di­tional 0.25 sen per-km will be charged af­ter the first 30km.
