Asia Poly’s bio-gas project gets feed-in approval from govt

KUALA LUMPUR: Asia Poly Holdings Bhd’s biogas project in Jeli, Kelantan has received the feed-in approval from the government to supply power to Tenaga Nasional for 21 years at a feed-in-tariff rate of up to 38.3 sen per k/ Wh.

The company said in a statement yesterday that its subsidiary Asia Poly Bio Gas Sdn Bhd was granted the approval from the Sustainabl­e Energy Developmen­t Authority (Seda) for the feed-in-tariff to start on Sept 30, 2022.

Its unit Asia Poly Green Energy Sdn Bhd owns 51% of Asia Poly Bio Gas, while Musteq Green Renewable Sdn Bhd holds the 49% stake.

“The rationale of venturing into the bio-gas project is to create a steady income for Asia Poly Group, ” it said.

The company added it expected the project to contribute positively to the group’s earnings and net assets in the future.

The basic FIT rates for a plant with an installed capacity of up to 5MW is 23.5 sen.

If the plant has gas engine technology with electrical efficiency of above 40%, the rate increases by 1.99 sen; additional for use of locally manufactur­ed or assembled gas engine technology is five sen.

If it uses landfill, sewage gas or agricultur­al waste including animal waste as fuel source, the rate increases by 7.86 sen.
