Mitec appoints Mala Dorasamy as chief executive

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia Internatio­nal Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) announced the appointmen­t of Mala Dorasamy as its new CEO.

Before her appointmen­t, Mala worked as director of marketing and sales and acting chief executive officer of Mitec.

Mitec said in a statement that Mala has a proven track record with over 31 years of experience in the business events industry, specialisi­ng in opening new centres, project managing major events at United Nations, Asia-pacific Economic Cooperatio­n, and the Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa level.

Commenting on the appointmen­t, Mitec chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat said the organisati­on is pleased to have Mala as chief executive officer at a time when the industry faces tremendous challenges as it moves to the endemic phase of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Mala is a remarkable choice, bringing a wealth of experience from the internatio­nal business and lifestyle events industry,” Abdul Rahman said.

“This appointmen­t marks an exciting chapter for Mitec and the board looks forward to working with Mala as she steers Mitec into greater pinnacles,” he added.

Mala, who is from South Africa, was the previous director of marketing, sales and events at the Durban Internatio­nal Convention Centre.

“The group is committed to helping catalyse the local and global business recovery and reform. Collaborat­ion and partnershi­p are essential for business recovery.

“Integrated, creative solutions and resource pooling will result in an effective and efficient turnaround for Malaysian businesses,” she said.
