Tests show no trace of poison in Wan Azizah’s bodyguard

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Blood and urine tests conducted on Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s bodyguard found no traces of poison, contrary to allegations that he had been injected with an unknown substance.

A forensic team which carried out the tests on Fayyad Afiq Albaqry Jaffar Sidek, 25, concluded that neither morphine nor poison was present in the samples provided.

Penang police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Ayub Yaakub said the team led by Penang Hospital’s department of forensic medicine head Datuk Dr Zahari Noor would continue with the analysis to establish other details.

Fayyad Afiq was admitted to the Seberang Jaya Hospital after he was allegedly injected in his left palm with an unknown substance.

He said he felt a sharp pain when he was making way for Dr Wan Azizah, the PKR president, to go on stage at a ceramah in Cherok Tok Kun near here at about 10pm on Saturday.

He said he placed ice cubes on his palm to ease the pain.

After the ceramah, he got into the car with Dr Wan Azizah and her youngest daughter as well as her son-in-law and a driver and headed towards Kuala Lumpur on the NorthSouth Expressway.

“Shortly after passing Juru toll plaza, I felt dizzy and fainted. The driver rushed me to the hospital,” he said from his hospital bed yesterday. His condition is said to be stable.

Speaking to reporters at the hospital after visiting Fayyad Afiq, DCP Ayub said there was a 0.4mm laceration on the bodyguard’s palm.

He lashed out at some news portals and blogs for alleging that Fayyad Afiq was injected with either morphine or poison.
