MCA: Work with the Malays
Chinese-based party can’t form government in Malaysia, community told
KLUANG: The Chinese must accept the reality that no Chinese-based political party can form a government in this country, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
They should, instead, cooperate with the Malay-based political parties, he said.
“Look at Pakatan Rakyat. It is obvious that PAS is going to be the dominant party,” he pointed out.
“We must understand that PAS’ political agenda is to implement Islamic and hudud law in this country,” Dr Chua added after attending a dinner celebrating the 65th anniversary of Kluang Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Saturday.
Dr Chua said the two-party system propagated by DAP would turn into a “two-race system”.
“If all the Chinese support the Opposition, there would be a loss in their representation in the Government,” he said.
“With the Chinese outside the Government and the Malays in the Government, this will be unhealthy.
“And it is bad for integration and social cohesion.”
On another matter, Dr Chua said the healthy bilateral relationship between Singapore and Malaysia showed a good sign for the country in moving a step further.
“It will bring more development to Iskandar Malaysia, which will lead to more economic and job opportunities for Malaysians.”
Dr Chua said Malaysia was looking beyond property and industrial investments.
“We are looking at connectivity such as transportation and underground tunnel,” he said.
He suggested that Malaysia and Singapore conduct joint promotions focusing on tourist attractions in both countries.
“Singapore has its concrete jungle while we have natural jungles in Johor.
“It will be good if the two countries package these two tourism products,” he said.
It was reported on Friday that Malaysia and Singapore were looking at the possibility of constructing an underground tunnel to connect the two countries.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who met his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong, said the two governments had commissioned a study on ways to improve connectivity.
