Thousands gain valuable advice
Education fair proves to be a hit among students
KUALA LUMPUR: The Star Education Fair 2012 proved to be a success, chalking up tens of thousands of visitors.
Parents and students walked through the doors of the exhibition halls at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre over the last two days seeking advice on the most suitable courses to pursue.
A steady flow of visitors kept representatives from the various institutions on their toes as they answered questions from students, ranging from which course to pursue to the education qualifications that offer the best value for money.
There were more than 170 exhibitors present to offer advice.
Temptations were aplenty too at the fair, thanks to the hard work of the culinary arts students from various institutions.
Sunway University School of Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure Management lecturer- cum- chef Chong Wei Tzeh said there were more students interested in finding out about study options in the culinary arts compared to previous years.
Visitors also stand a chance to win electronic gadgets like Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S II and Samsung Galaxy Tab by taking part in the Students’ Choice Awards.
Dharshanna Chandra Kumar, 17, said she took part because the prizes were very attractive.
“I don’t have a mobile phone so it would be great if I could win a smartphone to start the new year,” said the student from Port Dickson.
It was a walk down memory lane for Dr Shantona Bag since over 10 years ago, she visited the fair and found a destination to study medicine at University of New South Wales in Australia.
This year, she visited the fair to help her younger sister Shobana look for a place to study medicine.
“With so many options, the fair is a good place for students to discover the college and course suitable for them,” said Dr Bag.
Three 17-year-old friends – Norilani Ali, Nurul Ashikin Abdul Jalil and Nur Athirah Mohd Arif – came from Seremban at 10am to make sure they reached the fair before the doors opened.
