BR1M aid to be disbursed to successful applicants from Jan 16 onwards
The Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia monetary aid will be disbursed over a period of two months.
THE 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) of RM500 will be disbursed nationwide from Jan 15 onwards, while successful applicants from the Puchong parliamentary constituency will receive their vouchers from Jan 16 onwards.
The BR1M aid will be disbursed in the form of vouchers at various handover ceremonies over a period of two months.
Puchong parliamentary liaison officer Loo Yeng Peng, who is also special officer to the Home Minister, said he had suggested during a briefing with the Finance Ministry to prioritise the disbursement to Chinese applicants in view of the upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations.
“The Finance Ministry will notify successful applicants and issue invitation letters with details of the ceremony, for them to claim theirbr1m aid,” said Loo.
“Successful applicants have to bring along their original IC to the ceremony for them to redeem their vouchers and cash their money on the spot via three appointed banks — Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN), CIMB and Maybank.
“Those in Selangor who cannot make it for the ceremony can go to the State Development Office in Hicom Glenmarie Industrial Park, Shah Alam, from Feb 1 onwards to redeem their vouchers, or wait until a representative from the parliamentary or state liaison office contacts them.
“The liaison offices will also assist in delivering the vouchers to disabled individuals who cannot attend the ceremony due to their disabilities,” he said.
Loo said the Finance Ministry had received applications from 3.6 million households nationwide up till Jan 3, and that 1.6 million households are expected to be among the early recipients when the BR1M aid was disbursed on Jan 15.
“In the Puchong parliamentary constituency, the two schools that will serve as the handover ceremony venue and payment centre are SMK Seri Serdang and SK Puchong Jaya 1,” he said.
“SJK(C) Han Ming will later be included as an additional centre to disburse the funds.
“The disbursement will be divided into two sessions — from 9am to 12.30pm in SMK Seri Serdang and from 2pm to 5.30pm in SK Puchong Jaya 1. The BR1M aid will be disbursed to some 500 recipients each day,” he said.
In Puchong, Loo said 1,350 forms were submitted in the first phase, with some 500 to 600 forms expected in the next batch.
“Those whose applications are rejected by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) can submit their appeals via standardised forms that will be issued by the Government.
“The most common reason for the application to be rejected is due to multiple applications submitted by a single household,” he said.
Loo refuted rumours that the applications would not be approved and funds would not be disbursed, saying that the allegations were false as the funds have already been allocated and disbursement mechanisms were already in place.
He also reminded households with a monthly income of RM3,000 and less to apply for the BR1M scheme before the Jan 10 deadline.
“The Puchong Gerakan service centre in Bandar Puteri Puchong will be open from 9am till 6pm to assist those who would like to apply for the scheme,” said Loo.
