CHOOSING a strategic location in Selangor to operate the 1Malaysia Service Centre was not an easy task, said Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai at the launch yesterday.
The centre located on the first floor of a shophouse in SEA Park, Petaling Jaya is aimed at assisting the public better.
“Each parliamentary constituency covers a large area and more often than not people find it difficult to reach us.
“We see SEA Park as an ideal location and is able to serve a wider public because it is easily reachable by all.
“People are already coming to us with a quite a number of complaints since the centre opened its doors a few weeks back,” said Lim, who is also the Selangor MCA chief.
He also introduced the team managing the centre which would be headed by Kampung Tunku state liaison officer Kelvin Chong and former Damansara Utama assemblyman Datuk CK Lim.
Both the men, said Lim, had enough experience and knowledge of their respective areas.
When asked if there would be more of such centres in the state, Lim said he would have to look at the feedback from the public and discuss the matter with other Barisan Nasional representatives.
Although it had only opened its doors for a short period of time, the centre had received over 1,500 application forms for the RM500 1Malaysia People’s Welfare Aid (BR1M) apart from various complaints that needed urgent attention from the general public.
“We are very happy to know that the public is responding well to our centre and already looking to us for assistance, and we will try our best to help them,” said Chong.
With the existence of the centre, Chong hopes the centre will serve as a bridge between the party and the people.
“Although these areas are under the opposition parties, we are here to offer our rakyat our assistance,” added Chong.
The centre opens five days a week from 10am to 5pm.
