-

ALOR SETAR: The foster daughter of a fortune teller, who was slashed to death by her 54-year-old ex-husband, has been admitted to the intensive care unit at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here.

Hospital director Datuk Dr Juita Ghazalie said the 26-year-old woman, Chn’g Sheve Mei, sustained a cracked skull with internal bleeding in her brain and a broken arm, adding that she was being closely monitored.

“Her sister Wong Chiew Ying, also 26, who was also injured in the attack, has been discharged after being treated for a broken left arm.”

Kota Setar acting OCPD Supt Baharom Abu said the man, a backhoe driver, slashed his ex-wife Ung Siew Lin, 46, to death as she did not show him “respect”.

“A seven-day remand order has been obtained from a magistrate’s court pending investigations into the murder,” he said.

Supt Baharom said the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital will also run a test to see if he was drunk at the time.

The suspect attacked Ung with a parang at her Taman Saga home late at night. He ran amok after she refused to open the door.

He then torched her car and broke into the house.

Ung died at the scene of injuries to her head, body and arms.

Two other daughters Chew Shen, 22, and Chew Wei, 21, escaped unhurt.

Her body is being kept at the Simpang Kuala Resident Association’s funeral parlour for family members to pay their last respects.
