Options for caring son

-

I’M 24, an average guy from an average family. My parents are retired and I’m the next breadwinner of the family.

I’m studying in a private university. I want to do well but lack the will. Every time there is a difficult subject, I fail and have to repeat it. I have achieved very little even in the things that I enjoy doing.

My parents are ageing and the family’s financial situation can only get from bad to worse. The Underachiever I COMMEND you for showing concern for your parents. You sound like you want to succeed and relieve them of their financial burden.

If you are not doing as well as you would like, is it because you’re doing something you are not interested in? Ask yourself this question for the other areas of your life in which you say you have not achieved enough.

Are you setting realistic goals? Whose expectations are these? What do you really want? Once you know the answers, you can find out what is stopping you from getting them. Then you can set in place plans that will help you get to where you want to be in life.

If you think the barrier is finance, have you considered studying part-time? This will give you the option of earning some money while completing your studies. It will take a little longer, but you will at least be less dependent on your parents.

Another option is to move back or closer to home. This will help cut expenses like rent and eating out. Or, take some time off and perhaps try working. This will boost your bank account
