Terengganu’s latest elite school

-

AN ELITE school will be set up to cater to the ever-increasing demand for such schools because of the growing number of high achievers in the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) in Terengganu.

Dungun Umno division chief Datuk Rosli Mat Hassan said Terengganu has emerged as a hub for knowledge with a growing number of excellent students each year.

“Sadly, not all of these students are accepted by residential schools or MARA Junior Science Colleges (MRSM). Most of them continue their studies at normal secondary schools.

“Coincidentally, SM Raja Petra in Felda Kerteh 1 is a secondary school with a small student population and I have proposed for it to be upgraded as a premier and elite school,” he told reporters here.

Rosli said the school can accommodate up to 1,000 students but only 750 would be placed there for comfort, in line with its future status as a premier and elite school.

Therefore, he said they hoped the proposal could be implemented soon to ensure such students had access to the best educational facilities.

“Cooperation from the state government, Education Ministry, Ketengah and Felda in providing additional infrastructure such as roads, a hall, hostel building and sports centre will turn the elite school into a benchmark for the people of Terengganu, especially Dungun,” he added. — Bernama
