Police see through the ads — and smash gambling dens

-

PETALING JAYA: Passers-by see it as mere advertisement billboards but not officers from an anti-vice team who raided the gambling dens behind these structures in Puchong Jaya.

The team from the Selangor and Subang Jaya police headquarters raided the “Vegas Strip”, as locals term these joints due to the casino-styled interior.

Selangor Anti-vice staff officer Deputy Supt Izwan Abdul Karim led the raid on Saturday.

A total of 23 patrons, including a woman, were detained. Six workers, including an Indonesian woman, were also picked up.

The officers seized 109 gaming machines and RM807 in cash.

DSP Izwan said the gambling dens had been active for two weeks.

Meanwhile, police checked 420 vehicles and issued 185 summonses in Kuala Lumpur early yesterday.

The operation, dubbed Ops Samseng, was conducted by the Kuala Lumpur traffic police department to weed out the mat rempit menace.

A statement said the operation, which ran from 12.30am to 3am, also saw motorists being summoned for having customised number plates and failing to show their driving licences.
