Victims asleep after viewing football match when attacked

MARANG: A student and his friend were scalded when they were splashed with acid while sleeping in Kampung Padang Merchang here.

In the 5.10am incident yesterday, Mohd Fadzil Hanafi Idrus, 18, and Shahurzaman Salim, 38, were sleeping at a friend’s house with four others after watching a football match on television.

Mohd Fadzil, who is awaiting his SPM results, suffered burns to his face, body and leg, while Shahurzaman, a fisherman, suffered burns on his face.

They have been admitted to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

One of the tenants, factory bus driver Mohd Harmizi Hussin, 29, said he had just come home from work when he saw Mohd Fadzil writhing in pain.

“I sent the two victims to a nearby clinic, which then referred the duo to the hospital,” he added.

Mohd Harmizi said Mohd Fadzil would normally come to the house, which he rented with a few friends, to watch football.

“I believe that whoever did it splashed the liquid through an open window,” he said.

“Unfortunately for Fadzil and Shahurzaman, they were sleeping on the bed nearest to the window.”

Terengganu police chief Datuk Jamshah Mustapa confirmed receiving a report on the incident. — Bernama
