Immigration Dept website less than professional

AS a Human Resource personnel, I sometimes need to arrange for foreign professionals to come over to Malaysia for short- or mediumterm projects.

More often than not, this involves the need for the foreign professionals to obtain a visa or work permit from the Immigration Department in Putrajaya.

However, the standard of the English language found in the visa application form (Form IM. 47 - Pin. 1/97), which is downloadable from the Immigration Department website, is appalling.

One wonders why there was no competent scrutiny of such government forms before they were approved for official use.

For example, “Nama Penuh (Huruf Besar)” is translated as “Full Name (Capital Letter)”. It should have been “Letters”. Another example is “Butir-butir Permohonan” being translated as “Detail of Application”, instead of “Details of Application”.

And, one can see “Tujuan Perjalanan” translated as “Purposed of Journey”, rather than “Purpose of Journey”.

There are other mistakes in the form, for instance, “Other Specify” instead of “Other (Specify)”.

This is yet another clear testament that something is fundamentally very wrong when we talk about the shameful continuous decline of English standards in this country. KLANGBOY, Klang.
