HALLYU star Ryu Si-won has been tapped as the male lead in an upcoming TV series, making his return to the small screen for the first time in four years.

The show’s promoter announced in a press release that Ryu will play Cha Seunghyuk, an ex-martial arts fighter-turned-sports centre CEO, in a drama named Goodbye Wife (translated title) set to premiere in May.

“I decided to take on this project after reading the script because I felt that the character resembled who I was,” Ryu said.

Good-bye Wife, helmed by Kim Pyung-joong, tells the story of how Cha takes his wife, who has yet to be cast, for granted after five years of marriage while he tries to romance his first love once again.

The singer-actor made his debut in 1994, and has starred in various dramas including Secret (2000, MBC), Beautiful Days (2001, SBS) and Style (2009, SBS).
