RM5,000 for Parkinson’s society

-

THE Negri Sembilan Parkinson’s Society (NSPS) recently received a RM5,000 boost for their activities from the Royal Bintang Resort & Spa Seremban.

Hotel general manager Mashor Din said the funds were raised from a charity concert held last year in aid of the society.

“When we heard of the society and the work it is doing to improve the lives of those suffering from the disease, we decided to do what we could to help them out,” he said.

The concert which featured a classical music performance by local music academy The Angel’s Class, was a hit with almost 300 guests in attendance.

“The number of Parkinson’s patients are increasing yet many do not know the society exists.

“Our contribution may be small but we hope it will be put to good use to bring more attention to the society and its efforts,” Mashor said.

NSPS patron Datin Seri Raja Salbiah Tengku Nujumuddin, who accepted the cheque on behalf of the society, said the money would greatly benefit its members.

“Our society is one of the most active in the country but there is still a lot to be done to increase awareness of the disease, and the funds will be used for our various programmes,” she said.

NSPS vice-president Abdul Rahim Zakaria, who is a Parkinson’s patient , said the society was a support group for those suffering from the disease.

“It provides patients and their caregivers a platform to share their experiences and gain information and advice on how best to deal with the condition.

“Among our programmes are talks by specialist doctors, which is invaluable to us and helps us maintain a positive outlook,” he said.
