Woman slashes hubby, then falls to her death
GEORGE TOWN: A Chinese national, angered over claims of an extra-marital affair, slashed her husband with a knife before falling to her death from an apartment in Lintang Paya Terubong here.
The body of Qie Jian Min, 37, was found slumped in a pool of blood five floors below.
Police investigations revealed that the victim, who was said to have suffered three miscarriages, had quarrelled with her husband Ang Sea Hin, 44, before she attacked him.
She then fell to her death during the 1.10am incident yesterday.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said police believed the attack could have stemmed from allegations of an extramarital affair.
The police also recovered a knife, said to have been used in the attack, on a bloodsoaked mattress in a bedroom. The couple had been married for two years. ACP Gan said investigations were ongoing although the case had been classified as sudden death.
He added that the Chinese Embassy would be informed about the matter.
Ang, who suffered 10 lacerations on his left hand and head, was sent to Penang Hospital. He is in stable condition.
He admitted that he and his wife had argued before the attack, but refused to divulge more details.
“We knew each other for six years and I have forgiven her. I hope she goes in peace now. I want to move on and leave this unhappy episode behind,” he said.
A security guard at the apartment block said the woman had asked him on Sunday whether he could help lodge a police report that she was beaten by her husband.
“However, I directed her to the nearest police station,” he said.
A neighbour, who did not want to be identified, said the woman yelled for help around midnight.
“They were known to quarrel with each other and most of the time, they would solve the matter in minutes,” she added.
Another neighbour claimed that Qie was depressed after a miscarriage last year.
“The couple always quarrelled soon after the incident,” she said, adding that they had moved into the unit some four years ago.
